Abraham travels to the Negev and settles in Gerar, not far from Egypt. Out of fear that he will be killed because of his wife Sarah’s beauty, he repeats the lie he told twenty years earlier in Egypt to Pharaoh—that Sarah is his sister.
King Abimelech of Gerar has Sarah brought to him, assuming she is unmarried. But God intervenes and appears to Abimelech in a dream, commanding him to return Sarah to her husband. Abimelech immediately obeys, though he understandably has some tough questions for Abraham.
